This is my final response for my treatise on Why Chrisitianity is REAL, in response to an article at Atheists Alliance International by Bill Flavell’s article, entitled “Eight Reasons Christianity is False”
Atheist Bill’s eighth reason against Christianity:
“8. There is clear evidence that the arguments presented for the existence of the Jewish God are logically flawed—all of them have been shown to be unreliable. If this were not the case, all honest and intelligent people would accept that God exists, just as all honest and intelligent people accept that black holes exist”
Bill presents no support for any of his arguments, and presents no resource material to back up his claims. He claims that arguments for the existence of God are ‘logically flawed’ and ‘unreliable.’ Since the first time I observed Bill’s article, every single point he made has been a straw man argument. ‘Stand it up and knock it down — with no substance to his claims. Substance requires proof. If he claims something is logically flawed, he has to explain why it is flawed. A perspective that says ‘you should know this, or you are not intelligent’ is not an argument. It is an attempt to settle arguments by name calling and offense rather than attempting a systematic approach.
The existence of God is not limited to a defense based on logic. A person with wisdom recognizes there are things outside themselves that they cannot explain.
Ezekiel 37:3 ‘He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” ‘
In the New Testament, Jesus said “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
A Christian has the Holy Spirit as counselor and guide. A non Christian is not going to understand this relationship, and the non-Christian may also feel it does not make any sense. We could take the argument one step further. Since the Holy Spirit accompanies the Christian, to claim that a Christian is not intelligent about the existence of God is to deny the Holy Spirit. Matthew 30 has something to say about that:
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
My faith is real, and God continues to show Himself to me, regularly and frequently. I am grateful if you have spent some time reading through my 8 reasons. More important than my gratitude is your state of mind towards God. God loves you, and He will show himself to you if you let Him.
